Vaccinations for Umrah: What UK Pilgrims Need

Saudi Arabia sets health entry requirements for pilgrims, and getting your vaccinations sorted early avoids problems at the visa or border stage. This is general guidance — always confirm current requirements with your GP or a travel clinic and official Saudi sources before you travel.

Meningococcal meningitis (ACWY) — required

Saudi Arabia requires proof of a quadrivalent (ACWY) meningococcal vaccine for pilgrims. The certificate must usually be issued at least 10 days before arrival and is valid for a set number of years depending on the vaccine type.

Carry your vaccination certificate with your travel documents — you may be asked for it.

Routine and recommended vaccines

Make sure your routine UK vaccinations are up to date. A travel health professional may also recommend seasonal flu, COVID-19 and, depending on your health and circumstances, others such as hepatitis or polio boosters.

Where and when to get them

Book with your GP surgery or a private travel clinic several weeks before departure, as some vaccines need time to take effect and the ACWY certificate has a minimum lead time.
